Miyajima

Miyajima — the sacred Island of the Gods — is home to one of Japan's most photographed sights: the great vermilion torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine appearing to float above the Seto Inland Sea at high tide. Deer wander freely through the shrine precincts, and the island's maple trees ignite in crimson each autumn.
