Nyuto Onsen — a cluster of seven secluded hot spring inns in the Tazawa Lake forest of Akita — represents the pinnacle of wabi-sabi onsen philosophy: remote, unpolished, surrounded by deep beech forest and fed by springs of vastly different mineral compositions at each inn.
